In this episode I chat to Dr Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain a doctor turned Esports commentator. We discuss his journey from medicine to commentating for one of the most popular online games in the world and he shares his advice for people looking to make a career pivot.
This was such a great conversation for me personally as I have always grown up playing video games. It’s really amazing to see someone who has gone into the field and made a successful career out of it. I know when I was younger, I never would have imagined that this could be a viable option. Medic helped me to realise that it is perfectly ok to view careers in shorter time lengths as opposed to feeling as if the one career you get into will be a forever option. I also loved that he went into the difficulty of being thrust into the public spotlight, something that doesn’t get discussed as often as it should.
Medic is a doctor turned freelance commentator for professional video game tournaments. After completing his medical training and working in the NHS, he moved to Berlin to pursue his passion for gaming and now works as part of the broadcast team for the League of Legends European Championship or LEC.
